Upload speeds

When is a good upload speed important?

Although a faster download speed is probably more important overall, for some things fast uploads are a must.

Faster uploads are coming

Great news, we're increasing the upload speeds on our fibre optic broadband, free of charge! The new speeds started to roll out in 2011 and will continue through 2012. The new speeds are:

New upload speed
(once enabled)

Time to upload a 1MB photo

Time to upload a 15MB video clip

M Up to 10Mb Up to 1Mb 9 seconds 2 mins 13 sec
L Up to 10Mb Up to 1Mb 9 seconds 2 mins 13 sec
XL Up to 20Mb Up to 2Mb 4 seconds 1 mins 7 sec
XL Up to 30Mb Up to 3Mb 3 seconds 44 sec
XXL Up to 50Mb Up to 5Mb 2 seconds 27 seconds

When will I get them?

We’ll be keeping you up to date with the latest rollout information and will email you to let you know when they’re coming your way.

Take a look at our roll out schedule to see if you already have faster upload speeds, or find out when they are coming to your area.

The schedule is a live plan so as we go through the complex process of upgrading our network for faster upload speeds some of the timings may change. Keep an eye on this schedule for the latest dates!

What do I need to get them?

All our fibre optic broadband customers on M, L, XL and XXL will get the new speeds at no extra charge. Once available, you'll just need to switch your cable modem off at the wall, wait for 10 seconds and then switch it back on again.

Traffic management changes

Where we've improved upload speeds, we want as many of you to be able to enjoy them as possible, so we've adjusted our Traffic Management to make sure everyone gets a fair share at peak times.
